communicating-and-influencing
Communicating and influencing are two of the most desirable skills you can develop if you want to be a person of influence.
Becoming one of the elites, the movers and shakers who make an impact in the business world isn’t something that happens by accident.
I’ve learned that it’s not merely about holding a title; let’s be honest here, anyone can start a company and call themselves a CEO. But that doesn’t make them a success and it doesn’t make them skilled at communicating and influencing. A job title won’t make you a person of influence or a mover and shaker.
Embodying a specific mindset and skill set that allows you to thrive in a competitive environment will change things.
To be a mover and shaker—someone who completes crucial deals behind closed doors— requires a growth mindset, one that allows you to view failure not as an embarrassment and something shameful but as an opportunity to gather information and learn.
But it’s not just that. Having a growth mindset is useless if you don’t have the communication skills to sell your ideas, make connections and build your team.
Fortunately, we live in an age where we have information on tap. Personally, I like watching videos by CEOs and entrepreneurs on YouTube, and there are several key traits that successful mega-rich movers and shakers all have. I’m going to share some of them here because one thing they all do is prioritise their time over money. This also applies to improving your English skills, you want to prioritise time and results over number of classes which is why English coaching is so valuable.
Visionary Thinking: People of influence can see beyond the numbers. They understand market trends, anticipate industry shifts, and position their companies to adapt and thrive. This is not an accident. They study, plan, execute, review. This helps them make more informed decisions and gives them what we call visionary thinking, which sets the foundation for making strategic decisions that drive results.
Prioritisation of Tasks: Time is our most valuable resource. Once it’s gone, you can’t replace it. This means it’s essential to prioritise tasks based on their potential impact and ability to generate income. In other words, tackle the boulders first. They focus on what matters and not on their “Todo” list. Being busy is not as important as being effective. This approach not only maximises productivity but also ensures financial success.
Effective Communication: We operate in an increasingly globalised marketplace, and proficiency in English has never been more critical when communicating and influencing. English is the lingua franca in international business, enabling us to connect with diverse stakeholders and negotiate from a place of understanding. Clear communication fosters trust, facilitates collaboration, and empowers leaders to influence and inspire their teams.
Building Relationships: The best deals are often completed in the context of strong relationships. Successful people build networks that include mentors, peers, and industry leaders. They engage in meaningful conversations because they have mastered the art of small talk and know how to use it to connect. They have genuine interactions because they effectively use strategies for communicating and influencing. Relationships are built on trust, and the ability to nurture those connections is a vital aspect of effective leadership and the result of effective communication.
Adaptability: The business landscape is continuously evolving, and so must we. People of influence embrace change and view challenges as opportunities for growth. This mindset not only aids communicating and influencing when navigating uncertainties but also positions you as a resilient leader who can inspire others.
In conclusion, the journey to becoming a mover and shaker is about much more than a title; it’s about developing the right mindset and skills that empower you to lead effectively.
By prioritising impactful tasks, communicating effectively, and cultivating strong relationships, you can become the kind of leader who completes important deals behind closed doors and drives transformative change in your organization.
