Legal English Skills For lawyers who speak English as a second language
FROM ANXIOUS TO A CONFIDENT SPEAKER
How to Improve Your English Language Skills in just 5 minutes a day.
I created this article to show you that you can improve your English – you just need to treat it as a priority from day one.
It’s a fact that over 84% of people don’t set goals and only 3% of people who set goals actually achieve them. These top 3% have clear goals, commitment and a strategy to achieve them. This strategy and focus is what I help my clients with so they succeed and move into the top 3%. Today, I’m going to help push you in the right direction and help you build a good supporting habit.
Traditional advice tells you to immerse yourself in the language, go to classes once a week for a few years, learn grammar and extra vocabulary and eventually you will be fluent and confident.
The problem with this advice is it lacks two major components: Prioritising English and building a consistent habit.
If learning English isn’t treated as a real priority from day one, improving English speaking skills is put on the back burner. You learn new words and go to classes for years without a clear direction, no progress is made, and the learner quits or says their English is “just a hobby” and not really needed for work as a lawyer.
Why do lawyers fail to improve their English Skills?
It’s not from a lack of ambition. It’s because lawyers can’t transition from traditional ways of thinking and learning English to developing the necessary growth mindset.
They find that studying English in class for years and using it in real life are two entirely different things.
That’s why I flipped the script and started helping lawyers develop the skills and tools they really needed to become confident and competent English speakers. I took what I learned from teaching thousands of students and used it to create a clear path communication system. Lawyers went from anxious scared speakers to confident communicators. I stopped teaching the boring stuff designed to keep you chained to the education system and climbing up the fake level ladder and started coaching lawyers in what they really needed to do to make solid progress.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: The results I get with lawyers are NOT typical. They work hard on changing their mindset and practising using the tools I give them. There is NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH.
But if you have a good work ethic and determination, starting a good learning habit is the best way to build your English skills. I’m going to share with you 3 tools you can start using today to improve your English. You dont have to spend hours, all you have to do is find 5 minutes each and every day.
